"The" High School originated in 1805 when the Loyalist founders of the city opened a
public school. In its present building since the 1930's the school has always been
and still remains, a tradition - of excellence, participation, leadership and service
to the community.
Class photographs mounted on the walls form an unbroken string back to 1896. Playing
"find the ancestor" is a sport for our students, their parents and grandparents.
While firmly based in our community we are also a modern community devoted to the best in
contemporary education.

We offer the widest range of enriched courses in the Province of New Brunswick. The school provides these courses because
sufficient numbers of students come to this school specifically to take them. The vast majority of our courses are designed
for students with serious academic intentions.
Each subject and level offered at Saint John High School produces one student who excels in that particular course. Twice a
year these academic leaders are recognized publicly with a certificate of excellence. Some courses have cash prizes as well
as certificates.

Recognized throughout the world as a comprehensive and challenging high school curriculum, IB is designed for the student
who values excellence and is willing to persevere in meeting the challenges it demands.
This is an international university entrance program completed in the final two years of high school. Since 1987, graduates
of the IB program have gone on to university with exceptional results. we know from experience that the IB program is responsible
in large measure for their success. These students have "Learned how to learn".
Our IB students are involved in all activities in the school. They act in our plays, serve on our student council, play on our sports teams
and contribute to the spirit of our school. This is an active program.
