Ridgewood Addiction Services Youth Treatment

Ridgewood Addiction Services offers a Youth Treatment Programme to students of Saint John High School and their families.

The programme includes:

  • assessment and counseling for youth involved in alcohol and drug use, or in relation to gambling activity.
  • Counseling for students who are concerned about the impact of a family member's or friend's abuse of drugs or alcohol or the effects of problem gambling.
  • Educational information on various drugs and their effects.

These services are provided within Saint John High School every Thursday by social worker, Willow Edwards. Counseling appointments are private and confidential and take place in the Driver's Education office on the third floor.

Students wishing to participate in the Youth Treatment Programme can arrange to do so by contacting:

  • Mr. Adam McKim, teacher liaison with Ridgewood Addiction Services
  • A guidance counselor or classroom teacher
  • Or Willow directly either in school or at 674-4358

Parents concerned about their son or daughter's alcohol or drug use are encouraged to phone Ridgewood to make a referral. Parents are also invited to attend one of the Parent Information Sessions offered one evening a month at Ridgewood. The sessions cover information on adolescent substance use and suggestions on how to address a teen's use of drugs or alcohol. Please call 674-4300 to obtain information on the current schedule or to register.

Youth are also referred to the Youth Treatment Programme by teachers or administration when a student has been found to be involved in an incident involving drugs or alcohol, either during the school day or at a school sponsored activity such as a dance, hockey game, etc.

Students may also be referred by outside sources such as Probation or Family and Community Services.
