by Mr. Bill MacMackin - Saturday, August 16, 2008

Saint John High student Caleb Jones of the Saint John Track Club, who started to throw javelin this year, became the national youth champion with a gold medal throw of 63.65m. With this throw Caleb beats his own provincial record. This the third time Caleb has broken and set this provincial record since early July.

Caleb was a member of the team of 13 to 17 year olds, who were competing at the 2008 Legion Youth Track and Field Championships in Sherbrooke, Quebec with 300 of the best young athletes in Canada. The nationally sanctioned event was attended by more than 400 athletes. Started by the Royal Canadian Legion in the 1970's it has become an annual event and a major program funded by the Legion. The Legion has supported this national track and field program for over 30 years.
