Football Hounds Defeat Royals: Provincial Final Next Weekend

by SJHS Web Staff - Monday, November 3, 2008

SJHS is headed to the NBIAA high school football championship game for the first time since 1981.

Thanks to a 21-8 win over the Riverview Royals, the Greyhounds advanced to the provincial final next weekend in Moncton. They will battle with the Bernice MacNaughton Highlanders on Saturday at 1pm at Rocky Stone Field. The Highlanders defeated the Hampton Huskies 36-0 in the other semi-final.

Matt Doucet scored two touchdowns while Chris Tilley added another major. The score was 21-7 at half. As the final score indicates, it was a defensive struggle in the second half. Coach Grandy called the win a "team effort" saying his players played well on both sides of the ball.

With the win, SJHS imroved to 9-0 on the season and will meet the Highlanders in a battle of undefeated teams on Saturday.
