Saint John High School Choir to Perform at the Lincoln Center

by Ms Trish Gallagher - Thursday, March 12, 2009

After a successful audition, the Saint John High School Concert Choir has been invited to compete in the 11th Annual New York Choral Festival held at the Lincoln Center, one of the world's greatest stages, in March 2010. Sixty students will travel to New York as ambassadors of Saint John High School, Saint John, New Brunswick, and Canada while proudly representing their country in this International Competition.

For many years in the NB Music Festival, the SJHS choir has won awards including the Kiwanis Centennial Plaque for highest ranking high school choir. Now a greater challenge lies ahead. The prestigious Lincoln Center, home to the Metropolitan Opera, New York Philharmonic and Julliard, is the center of performing arts in New York. Our youth will participate in workshops with world class clinicians and sing in a combined choir with youth from around the world. Beyond what promises to be a life altering musical opportunity, preparing for this festival will increase students' self worth, team building skills, and national pride as they travel together as ambassadors of Canada.

The trip is scheduled for March, 2010 and fund raising has begun. Any contributions will assist in offsetting these costs. Sponsors will be named on the Lincoln Center Playbill, t-shirts, travelling banner and any other public acknowledgements. In addition, each will receive a personal invitation to be guests of honor at our upcoming gala!
