Greyhounds upset Saints 7-2
by Josh Pye - Wednesday, March 25, 2009
The Greyhound boys' curling team has made it through the first two rounds of the playdowns and will represent SJHS in the Provincial Championships. The Final 8's will be held April 3-5 in Fredericton.
The team of Josh Pye (skip), Dale Spence (mate), Andrew Daigle (second) and James Adams (lead) upset the number one seeded team, St. Malachy's, by a score of 7-2 in Regional play on Sunday. They moved to the final round, after a morning win over Fredericton High and a loss to KVHS.
The Greyhounds mixed team, comprised of Rob Maguire, Carly Logan, Patrick Creamer, Katrina Galbraith and Emily Gaunce, lost their last game against Leo Hayes after a victory over Simonds and a morning loss to Oromocto. On Friday, March 20th, the team played Thomas-Albert from Grand Falls for the last qualifying spot, unfortunately they were unsuccessful. The team is young and has a very promising future.
In girls' play, the SJHS team of Robyn Brown, Sabra Gardner, Shauna Sands, and Beth Ann Daigle had a good showing, but did not qualify. Each of the teams represented Saint John High very well. This is the second time in three years the boys' team has made it to the championships.
Good luck Greyhounds!
