May is Biology Field Trip Month

by Ms Debbie Garland - Saturday, May 23, 2009

The Biology 111 classes have headed to Huntsman Marine Science Centre, St. Andrews N.B. for the Marine Classification Field Trip. Students did plankton tows, benthic samples and salinity and temperature readings on the boat. In the laboratory, students worked with marine invertebrates, observed phytoplankton and zooplankton and finally tested the relationship between temperature and barnacle filtration rates.

A busy, busy day, and the only time for lunch was on the way to or from the wharf. Pictures are of Ms Garland's I.B. Biology 111 class trip May 14th. Many thanks to Tracey Dean and Laura, biologists at Huntsman.

May 4th was Ms. Savoie's day and May 25th is Mr. Milley's day.

May is also field trip month for Science 9. Classes are investigating the Hammond River freshwater ecology.
