Lady Greyhounds dethrone Harbour View

SAINT JOHN - The Saint John High School Lady Greyhounds put an end to the reign of the Harbour View High Vikings on Saturday with an 8-3 victory in the final of the New Brunswick Interscholastic Athletic Association girls softball championship at Memorial Field.
SJHS advanced to the final with an 18-2 victory over L'Odyssee while the Vikings blanked Nepisiguit 15-0.
Kaitlyn James picked up the win on the mound foe the Lady Greyhounds, scattering four hits, six walks and striking out 10. Kristen Byrne suffered the setback, giving up nine hits, one walk and she struck out seven.
James was also an offensive star with a single and a double and she scored two runs. Gracelyn Kaine singled twice and scored three times for SJHS while Ariel Arthursalso had a pair of singles and Jessica Rumson, Haley Maidment and Caroline Delaney each had a hit. Abby McGowan scored a pair of runs for the Lady Greyhounds.
Taylor James singled twice and scored a pair of runs for the Vikings, who had won two previous provincial championships and had their hearts set on a three-peat. Emily Wilson doubled and drove in two runs for HVHS while Byrne had a single and Danika Vautour scored a run.
This was Saint John High's first provincial championship since 2008.
