Hounds Victorious at the 29th annual Dave MacPherson Memorial Games
by Julie White - Wednesday, December 18, 2013
Recently, the Greyhounds travelled up the "hill" with noisemakers and sporting as much red and grey we could find to meet our rivals, the Saints. Saint Malachy's hosted the annual David MacPherson Memorial basketball games. The games are played each year in honor of David MacPherson, a former student of Saint Malachy's who later became a teacher and coach for Saint John High. Funds that are raised at the games are used for the David MacPherson scholarship at each school.
Both girls and boys teams did not disappoint their fellow greyhounds! It was a very successful night for the hounds with the girls team downing the Saints 93-56. Top scorers for the girls were Catherine Magee and Emily Shiels. The boys took the 75-69 win over Saint Mac's in a very tight game. Top scorers for the Hounds being Carter Roderick and Devon Rector. Graduates from each team recognized were: Morgan Hamilton, Shawn Barrett, Thane Dobson, Chris Ervin, Dylan Fogarty and Chris Vlug.
