Leader of the Pack opens on Thursday Night

The songs of Ellie Greenwich are familiar to many of us, though the name may not be. This Thursday, March 27 Saint John High begins its production of Leader of the Pack: The Ellie Greenwich Musical, a show that details the career and life of the prolific song writer. The Crystals' "Da Doo Ron Ron," the Ronettes' "Baby, I Love You," Tina Turner's "River Deep, Mountain High," and, of course, the Shangri-las' "Leader of the Pack" are all co-creations of Ellie Greenwich and her writing partner and then-husband, Jeff Barry. The show opens in the 80s and then goes back to the 60s to discover a young Ellie looking for her first big break in show business. That break comes when she meets music producer Gus Sharkey, a character based on the iconic Phil Spector, and fellow songwriter Jeff Barry. Love, success, heartbreak and triumph become part of Ellie's journey through music.
The SJHS performance of Leader of the Pack runs Thursday, Friday and Saturday, March 27th to 29th. Curtain is at 7:30 in the Dennis Knibb Auditorium at Saint John High School. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for seniors and can be purchased at the school and at the door.
