Local Artist leads Music Classes in Song Writing
by Trish Gallagher - Wednesday, October 29, 2014
Local singer, song writer, Brent Mason spent four days at Saint John High School working with the students in Ms Gallagher's music classes. After a history lesson on the origins of rock and roll, students divided into groups and combined their talents to create five original songs resembling the genres of country, blues, hip hop and rock genres. Students began the process by creating a chord progression and brainstorming lyrics and melody together. By combining their diverse talents on violin, piano, drums, guitar, bass, ukulele and percussion, the students were able to create 5 songs. Trayce Veniot rapped about pain and struggle on the street while Sadra Sarbazi and group wrote a love song in Farsi.
