Empty Stocking Fund
by Trish Gallagher - Monday, December 8, 2014
On November 22, Saint John High School hosted the annual Empty Stocking Fund in the Dennis Knibb Auditorium. Three members of the Student Representative Council- Catherine Kennedy, Shawn Nichols and Ben Peterson presented a whopping oversized cheque of $5600, on behalf of the school! Funds were raised with varying efforts including the annual Haunted House and West Jet tickets. Following this excitement, was a fantastic arrangement of O Come All Ye Faithful performed by the SJHS Concert Choir directed by Trish Gallagher and SJHS String Ensemble & Friends directed by Ali Leonard. The 'friends' included alumni Stephen Mott '03 and Benita Turnbull '75; Vice Principal Maureen Desmond; and the pillars of the string program: Robert McCausland and Helen Gollings. Closing the program for the evening was the SJHS Jazz Choir's heart-warming a cappella performance of I'll Be Home for Christmas. The choir and orchestra then proceeded to the gymnasium where they were invited by Coach Grandy to perform for the football fundraising dinner. This beautiful collaboration of strings and choral music was very well received and can be heard again at the SJHS Choir Concert on Dec 21, 2pm, at the Cathedral of The Immaculate Conception on Waterloo St. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
