Isabelle Nickerson Strikes Gold & Shines for the Red and Grey at Provincial Swimming Champs

(New - Click for 2014: SWIMMING VIDEO) Saint John High placed second among the twenty-five teams competing at the NBIAA Swimming Championship. FHS won the Senior Girls, Junior Girls and Senior Boys, while ESN captured the Junior Boys banner. SJHS finished 2nd in both Senior & Junior Girls, 2nd in Senior Boys and 4th in Junior Boys. Saturday's competition was hosted at the Aquatic Center in Saint John.
For the first time in 25 years, a SJHS Senior Girls swimmer led all provincial point-getters at the championship. Isabelle Nickerson won gold in her four disciplines in convincing fashion. She won the 100 and 200 meter Individual Medleys; events that require the athlete to complete all four strokes (Fly, Back, Breast, Free). She also set SJHS records in winning the 50 and 100 meter breaststroke. The senior girls team captained by Allie Ruigrok placed a solid second behind the powerhouse FHS which featured Canadian and World ranked athletes. The Hounds Sr Girls also captured gold in the 4x50 Medley and 4x50 Freestyle relays anchored by 100m Freestyle bronze medalist Emily Whitcomb, and silver in the 4x100 Free. Jill Skerry, Emma Manning, Brooklyn Goucher, Roxane Fruytier, Keeley Shea, Allie Ruigrok, Gillian Davidson were part of those relay teams.
The Junior Girls team led by Janelle Holt, Emilee Hoellwarth and Nicole MacNeil finished second to FHS by just one point (70 to 69). The junior girls won two relay gold and one relay bronze. Nicole picked up silver & bronze in the 100 Fly and 200 Free. Emilee was silver in the 50 back. Captain Janelle scored silver in the 100 free & bronze in the 50 free and the 100 IM. Katherine Keyes, Tori Ruigrok, Katie Shea, Kathleen O'Keefe, and Kailey Breen were part of the relay success.
The Senior Boys grabbed gold in the 4x50 Medlay & 4x50 Free & 4x100 Free; The Jr Boys were silver in the 4x50 Medley & 4x50 Free & 4x100 Free; Senior Captain Sam Irvine was Bronze in Sr 50 Fly; Gregor Sullivan was Bronze in Sr 50 Back. Members of the relay teams included: Will Baxter, Alex Smith, Mitch Lui, Ben Manzer, Greg Whitcomb, Robert Scott, Will Oliver, Will Roderick, Zack Lavigne, Davis Sullivan, Dennis Emerson, Braeden Randell.
