Boys and Girls Club and Saint John High School Collaboration
by Ms. Lutz - Tuesday, June 30, 2015
In the fall of 2014 the Boys and Girls Club of Saint John contacted Saint John High regarding a possible partnership in tutoring. They were looking for high school students to offer tutoring and mentoring to elementary school students from the area and SJHS was very eager to participate. Every Monday and Thursday of this school year the Boys and Girls Club bussed elementary school students to SJHS where they met with their mentors to work on homework, develop literacy and numeracy skills, play board games and enjoy the company of an older 'buddy.'
It was a very successful project of which both institutions are very proud. On June 1 all mentors and participants enjoyed an end-of-the-year party to celebrate the first year of what promises to be a very worthwhile partnership. A huge thank you goes out to Tracy Stuart of the Boys and Girls Club of Saint John who oversaw the tutoring partnerships all year and who organized the party, complete with treats and certificates for everyone.
