JV Boys Basketball: Season begins: ON and Off the Court
The JV Boys basketball team kicked off the season with a 4-0 record to win the Carleton County JV Boys Invitational tournament in Woodstock Nov 14 and Nov 15. Day 1 had the Hounds battle and defeat the Fredericton High Black Kats by a score of 70-61. Next up the Hounds battled back from a 10 point deficit at the end of the first quarter to defeat the hometown Woodstock Thunder 93-70. Day 2 had the Hounds defeat the co-host Carleton North Stars by a 63-37 margin setting up a rematch with the Kats in the final. First half of the final was a battle of fatigue and foul trouble; however our players embraced the pressure of FHS and held their ground. Down 26-24 at the half the Hounds turned up the defence and dominated the rebounding battle to pull away for a 68-53 win. An all around team effort all weekend.
Off the Court the Hounds are visiting with the Rising Stars basketball program and running a mini camp with the grade 4-6 basketball players at St John the Baptist King Edward School Monday November 16 at 6 pm. The boys are excited to mentor the next generation of basketball players in our neighborhood.
Additionally the Hounds are holding a bottle drive on Saturday November 21 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at St. Luke's church at the corner of Main St. and Lansdowne Ave. to offset the cost of our player fees. Please spread the word, alternatively if you have items for pick up please call 647 0279.
Regular season kick off is November 24 at Harbourview. Our first home game is Dec 1 versus KVHS. Mark your calendars for the Hounds Invitational being hosted on December 12th. Our team is seeking volunteers for door, clock and team host duties. If interested leave your name with Mr. Grandy!
