JV Boys Basketball Continue to Make Progress

by Jeff White - Wednesday, December 9, 2015

The Hounds say a big thank you to all those who supported our bottle drive on November 21st. The team was successful in raising the funds it was aiming for and will help throughout the year.

The Hounds continued their winning ways winning their first league game versus Harbour View on November 24th; 75-37. The Hounds continued with their success winning the St. Malachy's Invitational Tournament November 28th with a 4-0 record, with victories over Harbourview, Hampton and 2 wins over host St. Malachy's.

The Hounds faced a big test JVB AAA League December 1st hosting the KVHS Crusaders. The Hounds gym was full of electricity in anticipation of a battle for top spot in the South. The game had all aspects of a great night of basketball: large loud crowd, great plays and a battle from tip off to final buzzer. The Hounds pulled out an 82-80 victory in their first home game of the season.

The game stayed tight from start to finish: scores were as follows:

Q1 17 - 17

Q2 40 - 32 (Hounds)

Q3 61 - 56 (Hounds)

Q4 82-80 (Hounds)

Top scorers for the hounds were Tanner Hoyt - 29pts, Will Roderick - 19pts, Jamie White - 12pts, Jeron Sinclair - 12pts. Free throw shooting in the last minute was critical as White and Sinclair both went 2 for 2 to sustain the push from KVHS; this combined with the shooting of Hoyt and the defensive contribution from 12 players made this a demonstration of the teams depth and determination.

The Hounds are off until Tuesday December 8th when they visit the Simonds Seabees and December 10th when they host Sussex, both league games.

December 12th/13th the Hounds host an exciting Invitational tournament with KVHS, St. Malachy's, Carleton North, Leo Hayes and Bernice McNaughton. (schedule attached)
