Saint John High's recent production of Chicago was a huge success with near-full houses each night. The tale of Roxie Hart (Mary Louise Belyea) and Velma Kelly (Monet Comeau), two jazz-slayers of 1920s Chicago, and how they vied for the spotlight captivated both the characters onstage and the audience below.
With Masters of Ceremonies Sam Dumouchel and Ethan Hickey to guide them, the audience watched as Roxie quickly dispensed of lover Fred Casely (Sheehan Flattt), attempted to get husband Amos (Jason Gillan) to take the rap and then sought advice for her predicament first from Matron Mama Morton (Vicky Lincoln) and then slick lawyer Billy Flynn (Alex Sinclair). When reporters led by Mary Sunshine (Brianna Savoie) began to dote on Roxie and her murderous past, she ate it up and her fellow-murderess and rival, Velma, seethed with jealousy. Both learned, however, that in Chicago, popularity is based solely on how scandalizing one can be.
This year's cast and crew - from leads to dancers to chorus to orchestra to stage crew to tech crew to costumes and make-up - were absolutely outstanding. Shows like this simply cannot happen without the dedication from student, parent and community volunteers, so we would like to thank all who gave of their time and talent.
Please take time to enjoy the pictures from our Production.
