Greyhounds Strong at NBIAA Provincial Track

Forty three SJHS athletes battled heavy rains on Saturday to record the best over all performance by the school in many years. The team generated 28 top 3 results despite torrential rains and events that were cancelled completely due to weather. Building on the success of the past few years, the Greyhounds fielded the biggest team in recent years and despite not getting the provincial banner came within about 20-30 points of FHS. It's developed into an annual ritual since Mary Morrison, head coach of the Saint John Greyhounds track and field team, took over the program in 2002.Each spring, on the eve of the provincial championships, she assembles her troops in the gymnasium, near the banners adorning the wall, paying special attention to the one from 1988, recognizing the school's last New Brunswick Interscholastic Athletic Association track and field AAA title. SJHS Track & Field – 43 Qualify for Provincials

Fifty Three SJHS athletes competed at the NBIAA SW Regional Track and Field meet this past weekend in Oromocto. Forty Three of the SJHS athletes qualified to move on to Provincials on June 5th. The SJHS squad is the largest in decades. Athletes who have qualified are: Aaron Turner, John Gormley, Erica Aglabe,Adam Beck, Kate Robinson, Erica Lindsay,Alex Godilesky, Kayla Allaby, Ethan Macleod,Alex Peabody, Keith Linares, Gina Ouellet,Alex Tees, Kelsey Cormier ,James Eadie,Alex Yoon, Kelsey Duplessis, Jillian Small,Allison Bent, Kevin Yoon, Nick Leavett,Andrew Vail, Liz Gogan, Nick MacMackin,Becky Knox, Maddie Tees, Peter Banks,Cathleen Trafton, Marcus Rogers, Phillip Sexton,Connor Collrin, Mathieu Doucet, Rachelle Smith,Craig McCullum, Matt McNeil, Rahmyar Mahrahbee,Curtis Macmillan, Megan Manning, Reid Burrows,Emily Gaunce, Mike Whitcomb ,Rob Buttery,Sam Gallant Next weeks provincial champs will see over 400 athletes from forty three NB high schools compete. Of all the factors that have led the Saint John Greyhounds into Friday's South-West regional boys AAA rugby final, experience from a run to the provincial semifinal a year ago and some new faces have paid off the most. The Greyhounds take on Oromocto Friday at 6 p.m. where a win will give them home-field advantage in Monday's provincial semifinal. Read more...

SAINT JOHN - Home-field advantage played a big role for a pair of No. 1 seeds from the south in the regional semifinal round of the New Brunswick Interscholastic Athletic Association rugby playoffs Tuesday.In Saint John, the hometown Greyhounds jumped to a19-point lead at the half en route to a 26-14 victory over the Fredericton Black Kats in boys action.
