This week we are honouring the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation by spending time educating each other and becoming more aware of the experiences of Residential School survivors, their families, and communities. On Wednesday, we will be watching a video courtesy of Mr. Connelly's Indigenous Studies 120 class and engaging in a school-wide activity to pay tribute to the thousands of children who are named in the National Centre for Truth & Reconciliation's Memorial Register. On Thursday, we will be wearing orange in honour of Phyllis Webstad and Orange Shirt Day. We will also be engaging in a form of reconciliACTION by holding a fundraiser in support of the Downie & Wenjack fund, which provides access to education on the history of Indigenous people in Canada and the legacy of Residential Schools.
Thank you to our SRC and Indigenous Studies 120 class for your hard work and contributions. Special thank you to local businesses Sobeys (Lansdowne) and Superstore (Somerset) for their kindness and generosity with this initiative.
Through this week's activities, we are working to bring awareness and seek justice for survivors by contributing to the process of Canadian reconciliation.
