Keynan Harvey is a grade 12 student at SJHS. For 4 years, Keynan has been a force to be reckoned with, on the soccer field and the basketball court with our school's teams, and now his talents are being recognized beyond Saint John.

Keynan has been invited to a high performance soccer camp, the East Coast Combine this weekend, where only players of the highest calibre on the east coast have been invited to try out. This camp is "bringing together the best soccer players and coaches from the East Coast of Canada. Players will train with, learn from and play in front of University coaches & scouts." Keynan Harvey is one of them!!

We have heard plenty about Keynan's skills and abilities, so it was great to have the opportunity to chat with Keynan about his soccer

Tell us a bit about yourself.

I grew up in the uptown area of Saint John and attended Prince Charles for my elementary and Middle school years and now at Saint John High school. I am 17 years old and I have been around the sport of soccer for 11 years now. Soccer is my favourite thing to do in my past time.

When did you start playing soccer?

I started playing soccer for the Saint John Soccer Club when I was 6 years old. My best friend, Aidan Asimakos was a year older, and I always played soccer with him, up until age 15, and then I started playing with my own age group. I was always playing with older and bigger players.

How did you come to play for Team NB?

I was the top goal scorer in NB for the U17 Triple A league. I was to play for Team NB through AAA as the coaches were pushing me to play at that level, but I haven't been able to play for the past few years due to Covid. There was only one Team NB practice and that was shut down when the pandemic started. This past summer the highest level of soccer, AAA was allowed to play in within province.

Are you playing in the next Summer Canada Games?

I was going to tryout for the Canada games team but again it was canceled due to Covid and unfortunately I will be too old to play in the Canada Games in 2022.

Where are you going to study next year? Do they have a team?

I still haven't decided what university I am going to attend but I would like to study Psychology in post secondary. I will see if the camp opens up any opportunities.

How was your experience at SJHS?

My experience playing SJHS soccer was great, I played last year during Covid and I will definitely miss playing SJHS soccer. I loved my high school years.

Which team is your favorite soccer team?

Manchester United.

Thank you very much Keynan for conversing with us!! We wish you all the best at the camp, this weekend.
